A while back, Ankita was a victim of social media hate as many commented on the fact that Ankita is comparatively dark-skinned in comparison to Karan. To this, Ankita replied, "I am not shallow enough to have a complex about my complexion. I am fairer and darker, both at the same time than most of my friends and colleagues from the industry. As for Karan being fairer, how does that matter? We are not ruled by the British anymore, we are brown, that's what we are. Being not so fair by your standards does not make me a lesser person. I am still a decent wife, a daughter, a sister, a friend in my opinion and I am trying to get better with each passing day, learning and growing."

Recently, the Padmavati controversy has shaken Bollywood to its core and Karan took to his Twitter to lash out at the government for its disability to support Padmavati and its stars. The actor tweeted, "Dear Government, you must be proud that not only us but also the world is shocked at your disability, which you consider is your plus point. #Ashamed."
