Udit Narayan, one of the best male playback singers of Indian cinema, recently made a special appearance on Indian Idol 10. The singer’s presence on the show was like a booster for the contestants, who are in the final stages of the reality singing show. As a tribute to Udit Narayan, the contestants gave voice to the singer’s all-time classic hits. Some of the contestants also had a rare opportunity to sing along with the maestro himself.
The episode was specially dedicated to Udit ji and the singer recounted his bitter and sweet experiences on the Indian Idol stage. Apart from lending his voice to soulful songs, the singer also spoke about his initial days in the industry. One such little-known fact was his stint as an actor in 1985.

The singer revealed that before foraying into singing, he had acted in a movie titled 'Kusume Rumal' in his younger days. When the poster of the movie was shown, the singer was seen blushing. Later, the singer revealed that he was just paid only INR 1,500, even though he was the lead actor.
Udit Narayan said, "My father did not want me to take up singing as a career, he was ok with me pursuing singing only as a hobby. When I came to Mumbai my friends said that I am good looking and should consider acting in films. That's how I ended up doing the movie where I was paid only INR 1500. Later I realized that singing is my passion and pursued it," reported Mid-Day.
