Smriti Irani gets an additional charge of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting

With Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu resigning from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's cabinet,  Smriti Irani has been given an additional charge of the Information & Broadcast Ministry and Narendra Tomar was made the Minister for Urban Development.

"M. Venkaiah Naidu has resigned from his ministerial responsibilities. The additional charge of the Ministry of I&B has been given to Smriti Irani," the office handle of PMO tweeted. "Additional charge of Moud_India (Ministry of Urban Development) has been given to Tomar," posted the PMO. 

Naidu, who filed his election papers on Tuesday, quit the Modi cabinet hours after he was picked to take on opposition’s Gopalkrishna Gandhi in the August 5 election for the post of Vice President.

Talking about Smriti Irani, her term in Rajya Sabha, the Upper House of Parliament, ends on August 18. Elections for Rajya Sabha seats in Gujarat, the state represented by Ms. Irani, Bengal and Goa will be held on August 8.

It's a great comeback for Irani as in a cabinet reshuffle in 2016, she was replaced by Prakash Javedekar as the HRD Minister. 

Talking about Smriti, she rose to fame with Ekta Kapoor's  Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Recently, Kyunki... completed 17 years of its airing and Irani took to her Instagram page by sharing her first glimpse of the historic show. She said, "#17yearsofkyunki #it #began like this"
 
Even the creator of KSBKBT, Ekta Kapoor reminisced about the show on her Instagram page. She wrote, "17Years ago a man called @sameern n channel called @starplus gave a young producer a chance .... my life change n india got d biggest show in tv history !wat impact d show had on indian families still overwhelms me n I only have gratitude that I got a chance to b a part of this journey!
