The recent celebrity to speak up on Me Too Movement is Yeh Hai Mohabbatein actor Karan Patel.
The Me Too Movement is gaining momentum in India and sooner or later, everyone is speaking about it. The movement is gathering momentum since actress Tanushree Dutta revisited a 10-year-old incident. The actress accused Nana Patekar of sexually harassing her on the sets of Horn Ok Pleassss at Filimistan Studios in Goregaon, in March 2008. From Priyanka Chopra to Aditi Rao Hydari, Sushmita Sen and few other big celebrities have spoken up about the Me Too Movement. Even celebrities from the television industry are honestly speaking up. The recent to speak is Yeh Hai Mohabbatein actor Karan Patel.
In an exclusive chat with Indian Express, Karan Patel spoke about Me Too Movement. The television actor said, “It’s disgusting that a chain reaction had to be formed for them to speak out. It’s sad that women cannot even come out and complain about their ordeal. Why is that she needed to be accompanied by another victim to talk about it? Why weren’t people ready to listen? It’s ironical that this movement arrived during Navratri. My blood boils thinking that while these nine days we worship a female goddess, the rest of the day women are treated like shit. I think as a country, we are the biggest hypocrite."
The actor was further asked is television industry is a safe working place, to which he replied saying that he has never worked outside Balaji and that it is the most secure place to work at. He said, "the Balaji sets are the most secure and safe place for anyone. And I think it is so because it is run by two women (Shobha and Ekta Kapoor)."
Karan Patel also gave a very strong comment that how there should be a bigger punishment for a bigger name. He also added that proper investigation should be taken if needed. "But I must add here that a proper investigation is also needed. For there might be few, who would want to take undue advantage of the situation. The innocent shouldn’t bear the brunt. That will just lose the motive of this movement," he said during the same interview.
