The lead actors of Star Plus' popular show Ishqbaaaz, Nakuul Mehta and Surbhi Chandna, have come out in support of the MeToo movement which is on an uproar in India ever since Tanushree Dutta called out Nana Patekar whom she alleged has harassed her in 2008 on the sets of Horn Ok Pleasss. Nakuul and Surbhi who are known for taking stands on important subjects spoke about the Me Too movement via social media and insisted that change is a must.
Nakuul while wishing Dussehra wrote, "This will go down as a very significant Dusshera! The 'Ravan'/ingrained patriachy must be defeated. Some very courageous & strong women have already laid the foundation. The onus is on all of us to pause, introspect & take action. #metoo." On the other hand, Surbhi shared on her Instagram story, "I would be happy to goad women to come out in the open with their soul-shaking stories; we are here to give you a hear #inthisfighttogether #metoo." Meanwhile, names of Bollywood biggies like Alok Nath, Rajat Kapoor, Subhash Ghai, Subhash Kapoor, Utsav Chakraborty, Anu Malik, Varun Grover among others have come to light who have been accused of sexual harassment. Union Minister MJ Akbar too was accused of the same following which he tendered his resignation from the post after a lot of pressure from the media and otherwise.
