Happy Independence Day 2018: Divyanka Tripathi, Karan Patel, Arjun Bijlani and others share their thoughts
On the occasion of India's 72nd Independence Day, TV actors share their views on Independence, freedom and issues plaguing the society. Read on!
As India celebrates its 72nd Independence Day, we asked our beloved television actors to talk about freedom, Independence and what exactly do they crave freedom from. We see them, well, almost every day on our television screen and in some way, can relate to them and their thoughts. Interestingly, hatred, bad roads, pollution, fanaticism and traffic problems rated high on their list. Here’s what the TRP-scoring actors had to say and their thoughts are worth the read.
Yeh Hai Mohabbatein actor, Karan Patel, expressed his angst against society and its norms. He said, “I want independence from society’s attitude towards women about the way they dress. If they wear short skirts, they are judged. I think it’s time we stop stooping so low and create a country we are all proud of.” We agree, Mr. Patel.
We all love Mumbai but for some, it can cause immense distress when it comes to going back and forth from home to the shooting location. Sharing the same, TV actor Divyanka Tripathi Dahiya said, “I want freedom from bad roads in Mumbai. We travel for long hours to reach the sets and most of us end up having backaches because of the roads that are fit for bullock carts!” And Divyanka wasn’t alone as Vivian Dsena articulated his concern with Mumbai and its roads. Harman Singh aka Vivian of Shakti- Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki actor said, “I want independence from bad roads, traffic and potholes of Mumbai. It has become so bad that it takes hours to reach from Andheri to Naigaon where my show’s set is erected. Mumbai is a big city with a heart but these conditions really need to be addressed.”
Besides, there are some actors who have issues with the widespread hatred and fanaticism plaguing our country. Keith Sequeira stated, “I want independence from hatred. Whether it’s because of religion, sex, ideologies or the way we dress, there is a lot of negativity, which comes from a deep sense of insecurity or from a lack of understanding. I think rather than judging others, one should look within.” In the same vein, Pooja Banerjee said, “I want to be free from extremism. With so much social media and exposure, people have become opinionated, which is good in a way, but it eventually leads to extreme hatred towards any particular incident or sector in general. I want people to actually follow the policy of ‘live and let live’, and stop being so interfering.”
Likewise, Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai-famed-Saumya Tandon shared, “I want freedom from the slavery of set thoughts. When you discuss politics, religion, sexual preference, favorite movie, actor, etc, or when you post your views on social media, people react with anger and hateful messages. Are we so dumb and unevolved that even after 71 years of being free, we still cannot think freely, and accept people with different opinions? Are we going to pass on the same set of ideology to the future generation without any discourse? Let’s free our minds and thoughts and make a better country.”
But it was actor Arjun Bijlani who grieved about tons of garbage plaguing the city. “I want to see my city free from garbage on the road and in the sea. It is polluting the environment. Mumbai seriously needs a makeover.”
Here's wishing everyone a very happy Independence Day!
