May it be Holi or Baisakhi, Onam or Christmas, Durga Puja or Eid, every festival is celebrated with equal enthusiasm in India. Our country is a land of festivals and they are an important part of our culture and tradition. Today, Indians all over the nation are celebrating the joyous occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi in honour of Ganpati Bappa’s birth, the God of new beginnings and the remover of obstacles as well as the God of wisdom and intelligence.
During the 10 day long festival, devotees bring an idol of Lord Ganesha home and keep a fast, pray and prepare his favourite sweets, which are Modaks and Laddus. It is also believed that when Ganpati ji is staying at our house, a member of the family should always keep him company. On the last day, the idol is carried over to a water body and Bappa is immersed in it. He then reunites with his parents Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati at Mount Kailash.
