Gurmit Ram Rahim verdict: TV actors hail the judiciary
Television actors speak out about the verdict of the court.
Today, the court sentenced self-proclaimed Baba, Gurmit Ram Rahim to 20 years in prison for rape cases filed against him in 2002. CBI Judge Jagdeep Singh pronounced him guilty and delivered the verdict at Rohtak jail. His supporters had become violent ahead of the verdict and 36 people were killed in Haryana. Hundreds were injured as Dera Sacha Sauda sect members and supporters went on a rampage to support their leader.
Bollywood celebs had condemned the violence and appealed for peace. Several stars wrote heartfelt messages on their social media accounts. Actor-Producer-Director Farhan Akhtar posted, “To all those on the rampage and all those allowing it to continue, please try and imagine what the victims must feel seeing the violence in support of their rapist... "I assume that you, his followers, were taught the meaning and value of compassion... Please end the violence. Please allow the police to do their job. Please allow the law of the land to take its course”
Anupam Kher also strictly condemned the violence and posted, “Violence is what #GurmeetRamRahimSingh seems to have taught his followers. This is nonsense and government needs to use full force to stop it now.”
Raveena Tandon posted, "The way the followers are reacting,rioting,itself proves what the cult was all about...saddened to see such shameful goons on the loose “. Actor and comedian Vir Das also wrote, “I hope he stays in jail long enough to see every one of his Nutjob followers lose enthusiasm, go back to life, and forget about him.”
Today, as the sentence was delivered, TV actors hailed the Indian Judiciary:-
Actor Suyyash Rai was quoted saying, “Our law and order has once again given justice to the victim. This is a proud moment for us. I wish with this no more innocent are victim to anyone. I urge people to understand the spiritual values and don’t allow such God man to play with their worship and faith”
Kiku Sharda who was arrested for his act on Gurmit Ram Rahim on The Kapil Sharma Show took a sly dig by tweeting, “Enjoying a peaceful Chinese meal with no monosodium glutamate”. Twinkle Khanna had an apt response, “Hahaha! And life moves on with its tongue firmly in its cheek:)”. Bigg Boss contestant Manu Punjabi said, “Happy and blessed to be an Indian. Our law and order has really given justice to the victim and hope it keep going in the same way. I urge my fans to be away from such fake man. Also I think their should be a special law and order for the people who choose to be a Godman, that they cant harm and play with the worshiping of innocent.”
Devoleena Bhattacharjee, who is one of the highest paid TV actresses also commended the verdict and said, “Happy and thankful that our law and order has given justice to the victim. I dont understand how spirituality is been allowed to be framed as a matter of crime by such Godman.”
Yuvika Chaudhary said, “Indian law and order has always took a stand against the crime. Happy that late but justice has been in favour of victim. I would urge my fans and all that stay away from such Godman. Its better to follow your parents because they are only the one who will care of their child’s goodwill even before thinking about their own benefits.” Manish Goplani of Thapki Pyaari Ki said, “I am happy that Indian law and order has once again given justice to the victim. Hope the culprit is treated the same way he did the innocent devotees. Above all this is a small punishment by humans yet God is there to punish him more.”
