At the time when spin-offs seem to be a cliche, Rajan Shahi managed to hit the right chord with Yeh Rishtey Hain Pyaar Ke, which is a spin-off of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. YRHPK stars Shaheer Sheikh and Rhea Sharma in lead roles as Abir and Mishti. Within a short span of time, the two managed to carve a space for themselves as Mishbir and while there are many reasons to applaud the show, the biggest is the writers have presented a beautiful feminist character in the form of Abir. From calling out the men in the house for their "male ego" to questioning the patriarchal beliefs, Shaheer adds spunk and life to Abir. As the show completes 100 episodes, we got in touch with the actor to know what he feels about the same.
An ecstatic Shaheer said that he very much related to Abir and feels happy to hear such good reviews and opinions on him. Ask him about his views as Shaheer about Abir, the talented actor shared, "I relate to Abir’s character in so many ways and I love the fact that more than anything else he wants to bring equality in the society. He wants all the parents to treat their kids the same way irrespective of their gender. He believes everyone has the right after a certain age to make their own decisions and follow what they believe. He is aware how in certain sections of our society the voice of women can be suppressed and he wants to support them."
Given that very limited roles are written for men on Television specifically, when asked if Abir makes him feel empowered, Shaheer added, "I haven’t thought about that but it makes me feel content at the end of the day. When I am going back home I feel that I am working on something which has a good message in it for the audience and with it comes a sense of satisfaction."
