EXCLUSIVE: Ruslaan Mumtaz: I am comfortable doing more of web series if they do not involve nudity
Ruslaan Mumtaz in a candid interview with Pinkvilla said that his role in the web series Zakhmi was similar to that of Saif Ali Khan's in Ek Hasina Thi.
After playing a chocolate boy on the small screen for a long time, Ruslaan Mumtaz was recently seen playing a negative character in Vikram Bhatt's web series Zakhmi. The actor was paired opposite Tia Bajaj in the revenge drama.
Exclaiming that he felt he fit the bill, Ruslaan in a candid interview with Pinkvilla said that his role was similar to that of Saif Ali Khan's in Ek Hasina Thi. He added, "I am the hero and the villain in this story."
When asked if he was apprehensive of getting typecast when he took a negative role, Ruslaan said, "Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn, they have all played negative roles but they are not really villains of today. They are still heroes. I think today, people have moved on from typecasting anyone as a hero or a villain and hence, I did not have any apprehension."
"I am more comfortable in a romantic role because I have always done that and in that sense, this was a challenging role for me. But once I was into the character, I started enjoying it more than anything else," he further stated.
When asked about shooting for an intimate scene with Tia Bajaj in their first shot together, Ruslaan recalled, "I just met her directly for the shoot as during workshops we couldn't meet due to different timings. So, I was waiting for the scene sitting with Vikram sir when he introduced me to Tia and said now, you have to kiss in the first shot. One cannot even imagine what it must be like. I have done kissing scenes before but then you spend enough time with the actress to feel comfortable, there is trust. But, here I was a little unsure because it was to be my first impression with Tia. But Tia seemed prepared so she tried to close me up with small talks."
Is he more open to doing web series now? To this, Ruslaan expressed, "Earlier, I used to get a lot of offer from the web and I used to always refuse them. There is a lot of sexual content on the web which I am not comfortable with. All the shows that I was offered were sexual content based shows because the net doesn't have a censor. There was a lovemaking scene even in this series but then I know how Vikram Bhatt shoots and hence, I was comfortable knowing I am in safe hands."
"The content matters to me. On TV and films, there are scenes which cannot be shown and hence you can put your foot down and say 'I won't shoot that'. But since the web has no censor, people end up shooting things they are not comfortable with and hence I avoid those projects. If there are things that do not involve nudity, I am comfortable with it," he concluded.
Ruslaan will soon begin working on two upcoming web series and is currently seen in the show Laal Ishq.
