EXCLUSIVE: Praneet Bhatt takes a dig on Indian Television: If one different show is made then 5 production houses copy the same thing
Praneet Bhatt is back with Sony TV's enormous show Porus.
Sony TV has surprised us with the kind of content it's coming up with and we couldn't get happier to see this change finally on Indian Television and now the channel has come up with its most expensive show, Porus, a period based drama and the makers have invested around 500 crores for this grand project. Surprising isn't it? The show has an enormous star cast too with about 21 vital characters and we at Pinkvilla exclusively got in touch with Praneet Bhatt, earlier seen as Shakuni in the epic show Mahabharata. Praneet got a little chatty with us and spoke about his connection with fiction and also about the stereotyping in Indian Television.
We have seen you in Mahabharata earlier, do you feel some sort of connection with mythological or period shows?
My genre is fiction and I am an actor and that's all I have known since I was a child. I like fiction and I have grown up watching fiction shows like superheroes etc. I wouldn't call Mahabharata a mythological show because when I signed the show I too thought it's a mythological show but when I started preparing for my role, I started doing some research work I realised that this is actually history, there are events that have happened and even according to historians and according to the NASA, Ramayana and Mahabharata are true events and not just stories.
Do you feel you get stereotyped as a certain character on screen?
Stereotyping has happened with a lot of actors in India, and no offence to anyone but if one different show is made then 5 production houses copy the same thing. If an actor plays a certain kind of role then viewers want to see them in the same roles not understanding that we are actors at the end of the day.
Yes I do feel I get stereotyped and after Mahabharata I was offered way too many roles on the same lines and I am not the one to repeat roles, I went on to do two films, Laden and one is yet to be released and yes I had been looking out for different kind of roles and thanks to the makers of Porus for offering me this role.
Are you watching Bigg Boss 11 considering the fact that you too were a contestant in the earlier season?
Ask Salman sir about Bigg Boss he knows it better...(Laughs) but yes I have seen a few episodes and I see everybody fighting and I can only remember my days.
