EXCLUSIVE: Jennifer Winget on bagging the Best Actress Award at ITA 2017: I am TV’s girl, born for the television industry
Jennifer Winget's Thank You note for fans is heart-warming.
Jennifer Winget is the uncrowned Queen of Television. The talented actor as Maya has set a benchmark for female characters on Television. It's been over a week since Beyhadh went off air but Jennifer's character will continue to remain in one's conscience for the longest time.
Jennifer bagged the Best Actress Award at the 17th Indian Television Academy Awards which was held last night in Mumbai.
Congratulating the beautiful actress on her big win, we wanted to know her reaction on being accorded with such a coveted award.
Responding to Pinkvilla, Jenny wrote a heartwarming thank you note to her fans and all those who made Maya work. She also emphasized on how television is changing and she is glad to be a part of this changing tide.
Read what Jennifer has to say:
"I am TV’s girl Indeed- born for the television industry, spent almost half my life here and I honestly don't mind living the other half here as well, as long as it allows me to continue to create, innovate, challenge and grow some more, competing with my self on set every day.
And last night I wish I could’ve said some more as it seemed like an opportune moment, but couldn't because of a time crunch. The award was kind of like a shout out to me and the Tv industry as a whole because I have to confess about how apprehensive I was about deep-diving into an off-track character such as Maya with Beyhadh as any of us would think twice to cut away from the usual. But look what its done for me. Of all the cinema I've done, this has come to be my benchmark to learn and go a notch higher from. To have given it my all made a mark for my self and with the fraternity and then it going unnoticed, I have to admit, would’ve definitely been disappointingly ignorant and misplaced.
With TV having reached its peak, I hope that we as an industry - leads, writers, creatives and channel heads alike look towards breaking the mould and going beyond the routine, only because we have the talent and potential that it takes to put quality over quantity and take next level Television to the world that's watching us. Only a diversion long due will rake us the respect and love that we truly deserve. I don't see why our work should be getting any less recognition than commercial cinema that spends just as much time, works exactly as hard to sell emotions to the audience, as us!
And so this award, therefore, belongs to all those in the Tv fraternity who take chances, the people who stood by Maya, who created her and who fought against and for her, who loved her who hated her and could never let go of her! The curtains have closed on Beyhadh, but Maya stays with me. Last Night, ITA made sure of that by honouring Maya with this award.(sic)."
Congratulations, Jennifer!
