Gulki Joshi: When I started out, dark-skinned actresses were in demand
Gulki Joshi is all set to be seen as Lord Krishna's mother Devaki in the mythological show Paramavatar Shri Krishna.
Piya Rangrezz's actor Gulki Joshi is all set to be back with the show Paramavatar Shri Krishna. She will be seen playing the role of Lord Krishna's mother Devaki.
Talking about it, she stated, "The show will focus on my track in the beginning and how I influence Krishna. As far as ageing on screen is concerned, I believe that an actor should be able to play any character."
Gulki also spoke about the battle she fought while being in the industry. She said, "Apart from being dark skinned, my looks are unconventional. I also don't attend industry parties. When I started out, dark-skinned actresses were in demand and a lot of roles were written for them. The scenario has changed now and we don't get as many opportunities, but it has never mattered to me. I am not too ambitious and can't compromise on my ethics and morals. If you notice, there has been a gap of a year between every show of mine. So, with every project, it feels like a comeback. However, rather than sulking and brooding, I am channelling my energies on other aspects; I want to try direction and writing."
Joshi also spoke about how she is learning new things. She concluded by saying, "I can be bitter or choose to look at the brighter side. Initially, I will be shooting for 20 days a month for this show, which will eventually come down to 10. I am happy that it will give me time to pursue my other passions. It's all about the perspective. When I am not working, I travel extensively. I learnt paragliding recently and I am a certified glider now."
