Post Reema Lagoo's demise, Ragini Shah roped in to essay her character in Naamkarann
Ragini Shah to take over Reema Lagoo's character in Naamkarann post her demise.
Reema Lagoo, who was last seen in Mahesh Bhatt's TV show Naamkarann, passed away after suffering from a cardiac arrest on May 18, 2017. Reemaji essayed the role of Dayawanti Mehta on the show, who is known to be a very possessive mother.
According to a report in a leading tabloid, popular theatre and television artiste Ragini Shah has been roped in to step into the late Reema Lagoo’s shoes in the show after the latter’s sudden demise.
Ragini Shah was quoted saying, “When I got the call I blanked out totally. But the producers were desperate because the current wedding track is pivotal to the show and they needed a replacement urgently. It is still hard to believe that a happy-go-lucky person like Reema who was shooting on Wednesday is no more,”
Ragini, who had already committed to a theatre show had to apparently wriggle out of theatre commitment. “Maheshji (Bhatt) came to meet me, along with producers, to explain the role. This is the first time I’m replacing someone but Maheshji told me to think of Dayawanti as a new character. Everyone is helping me,” said Ragini.
When asked if she has seen the show and is aware of Dayawanti's character, the actress said that she hasn't because she has been busy with the stage. “Dayawanti is strong, and unpredictable, I think I will enjoy playing her,” she says.
Ragini also recalled the time she met Reema ji during a Gujarati play and how she used to ask her if she was doing it right given that she was speaking an unfamiliar language. “Reemaji was always open to suggestions. I respected her a lot and will dedicate this performance to her,” she concluded.
