Punjab police arrest controversial celeb Rakhi Sawant after an arrest warrant was issued against her by a local court.

A local court of Ludhiana had issued an arrest warrant against Rakhi for allegedly making derogatory remarks against sage Valmiki, the author of Hindu mythological book Ramayana.

The complainant accused Sawant of hurting the religious sentiments of the Valmiki community on a TV show.

The arrest warrant was issued after the actor failed to appear before the court defying court's order. Later, a bailable warrant was issued against the actor, however, Rakhi failed to turn up even then. The court then finally decided to issue a non-bailable warrant against her.

Yesterday it was reported that a Punjab Police team had left for Mumbai to arrest Sawant. However, the team had to leave Mumbai empty handed after the officials were unavailable to trace the actor.

When the team reached Rakhi's residential address to arrest her, the occupants of the flat told them that Rakhi never stayed here.

The court will now hear the case on April 10.

The actor had recently hit headlines after a leaked video of her changing her costume had gone viral.

Talking to us about it, Rakhi had said, "Yes, I saw the video and I am very upset. I have worked in the film industry for 11 years and have not experienced anything like this. I don't know who it is, looks like me, maybe she is my duplicate. But it is not me. I am obviously worried about it, but I am a strong woman. I have always risen from my trouble and I am sure I will this time too.”
