International Dance Day:Terence Lewis, Dharmesh Sir, Raghav Juyal & Kunwar Amar on why Dance Is Life!
What is Dance? For some, it may be passion transformed into profession while for others it may be a way out to connect with themselves amidst the daily hush-hush! Be it Indian classical, contemporary, western or a typical 'Ganpati dance' (Mumbaikars will relate to this term better), or any other form, the art simply introduces one to sheer happiness and a stress-free time! Like PadmaVibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj always says, 'Dance is all about rhythm and enjoying it. It's that thing that prevails within every living being naturally; be it in the chirping and flying of birds or the subtle movement of flowers on the rhythm of the wind!" One does not necessarily need to professionally get trained under any dance style. If you love dancing, you will automatically find happiness!
So On the eve of International Dance Day today, here we are with the top dancers of the entertainment genre talking about their ideology of Dance!
Terence Lewis
The master blaster Terence Lewis promoted the contemporary dance style amidst people! His grace and finesse resulting into crisp and amazing postures encouraged people more in taking to learn contemporary. The ace dancer who is currently busy judging the reality show, So You Think You Can Dance India while talking to us elaborated on his feelings for Dance!
"Dance is life for me! It's about movement. Just the way a heart has its movement when it pumps; Dance is also similar to it. It too goes up down, up down! It's about energy!" said Terence.
Dharmesh Yelande
Dharmesh aka Dharmesh Sir has always acknowledged that Dance is something he might not be able to live without! The dancer cum actor who can easily perform any style believes in versatility. Which is why is also undergoing training in the Indian classical form Bharatnatyam.
"Dance is like an oxygen to me, for us humans we cannot live without oxygen, I cannot live without dance,It is my ritual to practice dance everyday without fail. Sometimes 3 hours, sometimes 2 or if i am very busy I still make sure that I at least practice of an hour." Further, while elaborating on how dance acts as a stress relief for him, he said, "To me, dance is like a form of exercise. When you perform a dance, you look young and become active, People are unable to guess your age. If you practice it regularly and make it an essential part of your lifestyle, you can stay healthy for a long time."
Raghav Juyal
The dancer can perform almost every dance form smoothly, but nails it each time he puts to display his 'Slow Motion' dance! The trend setter of the Slow dance whose steps and ease while performing it literally makes one feel as if its unreal and has some technicality used behind it; that's the impact of Raghav! While talking to us, Raghav states the significance of Dance in his life."More than movement, dance is about balance and stability, according to me. When your soul is dancing your body shows the movement too and when you reach that balance and in that zone of nothingness, even your brain can't get What your body is doing, u are in a Sufi zone, you flow along with the rhythm of the universe the cosmos start effecting you, you don't even know who is in front of you. You just close your eyes and go so deep in an eternal ocean of abundance, and when you open your eyes u realise that you have danced for hours. It is a part of meditation, and transcend one and gives you full power."
Kunwar Amar
The dapper dancer cum actor Kunwar Amar bewitched the audiences with his stint in Dance India Dance! Be it the aerial acts or Bollywood form, his fans went gaga over him each time he appeared on stage! Recently, seen in one of the most loved episodes of Bindaas's Yeh Hai Aashiqui, Kunwar Amar considers Dance to be an extreme integral part of his life! "Dance is everything to me. It has and is the pedestal through which I have fulfilled my dreams and continue to do so. It's credit my unprecedented success also to it." He also said, "Dance is the best workout for any one and it keeps you fit and active. Unlike other forms of workouts, it doesn't tire you, in fact, you derive immense joy out of it. It is my fitness mantra."
