Bombay HC Refuses To Transfer Pratyusha's Case To Crime Branch
Today, the Bombay High Court refused to transfer the ongoing investigation of Pratyusha Banerjee's alleged suicide from Mumbai Police.
A bench of justices Naresh Patil and AM Badar made an observation that the Bangur Nagar police’s records showed the investigations were on track. They even noticed that the probe conducted so far "did not prima facie show that the cops were favouring" Pratyusha's boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh, who is accused in the case.
Balika Vadhu actress' mother Soma Banerjee filed a plea that the probe was misleading, unfair and even intended to save the accused Rahul. The hearing of the plea was taken place at the high court.
Advocate K T Thomas, her counsel also stated that Bangur Nagar police seemed to be in collusion with Rahul. The bench stated, "The police are on track. They just need some time. Cases like these that do not have any eyewitnesses require time. Abetment is a complex issue and the investigating agencies are required to form a conclusive opinion on abetment based on whatever evidence is available." They further added, "The police are recording exhaustive statements of crucial witnesses and looking into call records, bank statements, FSL (forensic) reports etc. Thus, at this stage, there is nothing to show that the ongoing probe is tainted or unfair."
The next hearing is set to be held on May 4 and the court has directed the police to inform them about the progress of the case.
The state government informed the court that they are awaiting the forensic lab reports to make conclusions on the charge of abetment against Singh.
