Riston Ke Bhi Roop Badalte Hai, *Music* Naye Naye Saanche Mein Dhalte Hai *Music* Ek Pidhi Aati Hai, Ek Pidhi Jaati Hai, Banke Kahaani Nayi..ii.iii.. Kyunki Saas Bhi Kahi Bahu Thi *Music*

If you hummed the lines exactly according to the iconic tunes, you have evidently been one of the million number of fans who helped the show rule the charts in its duration.

The show that celebrates its 17th birthday today, is like a grown up teenager, who just refuses to stop spreading its charm on us. While Ekta Kapoor was its mommy, Tulsi aka Smriti Irani was its guardian angel and with the best of both, the show went on to carve a niche in the books of Indian Television Series.

Taking a trip down memory lane today, we get to you top five moments of the show that created a havoc in the lives of its viewers whose lives revolved around the show majorly, like literally.

The death of Mihir Virani:

Probably even Amar Upadhyay wouldn't have felt bad on the death of his own character in the show, as much his fans were affected. It wouldn't be wrong if we say fans who literally worshipped Tulsi-Mihir as the gen next's Ram-Sita sobbed and were traumatised. The emotions of fans were distorted on seeing a pregnant Tulsi cry her heart out on the death of her husband Mihir.

Mihir Virani Returns:

Remember Mihir's re-entry to the show. The actor dressed in a white kurta-pyjama welcomed the viewers on the title track and gave us a tour of the Virani house just the Tulsi style. Despite any presence of social media then, the frenzy and pressure of the fans were so much, that eventually, Ekta had to bow down to their demand and bring back Mihir to the show.

Mihir-Tulsi aur Mandira:

The bringing alive from the dead saga followed by the memory loss drama had just gotten over, that the viewers finally wished to see Tulsi-Mihir reunite. But Ekta had different plans. Introducing Mihir's extramarital affair with Mandira sabotaged the emotions of not just Tulsi but also their fans who cried along.

Nandini gets 'Raped':

The term 'rape' that is an abused term over the internet now, was hammered into the minds of people back then after Ansh sexually molests his wife, Nandini. It dealt maturely with a sensitive topic like marital rape, something that has hogged the limelight now, years later.

Kyunki Beta Bhi Kabhi Criminal Tha:

Well, after the repetitive leaps and children growing up to have more children and extend the storyline (How else do you think the show ran for good years a decade ago), came a massive turn when Tulsi, the ideal mother, shot dead her own son Ansh, whom she had reunited after years. This was the first of an extremely strong step on Indian Television then taken by a woman, a mother to do justice to her daughter-in-law who was sexually molested by her son.

Tulsi fulfils Savita Virani's mercy-killing wish, relieves her from her pain post accident:

An important turn in the show took place when Tulsi learns of her mother like figure Mother In Law Savita Virani's accident. Savita who is unable to bear the pain, requests Tulsi to relieve her from the pain and set her free from the painful life. Tulsi after a lot of pleading gives in to Savita's last wish and sets her free, what we call as a mercy killing.

Though it is illegal in our country, the episode had made the fans go berserk and they were unable to fathom the fact that Tulsi could actually let her mother in law die and not turn into Satyavan-Savitri's Savitri for a change. Some massively strong content put into execution in the world of India Television.

Nevertheless, how many ever times the 'Nahi, Nahi, Nahi' or plastic surgeries happened, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Thi simply made us hooked onto it. Just by the very mention of, Tulsi, Mihir, Baa, plastic surgeries, Over usage of background music, reactions (Close up shots * thrice of every family member) over every incident and much more, this show tops the list not just in history books of Indian Television but also on the minds of every fan, catering to every age group.

Happy Birthday, Kyunki...!
