EXCLUSIVE: Namik Paul on Bollywood vs Television: When I came to Bombay, I only wanted to do movies
Namik Paul talks about his upcoming show Ek Deewaana Tha.
Namik Paul is a Television hottie and has been a part of several projects, he made his debut with Sony TV's Ek Duje Ke Vaaste opposite Nikita Dutta and later went on to do a web series opposite Lisa Haydon. Namik Paul is extremely talented and equally good looking. The handsome actor is now ready to come up with his second Television show Ek Deewaana Tha on Sony TV where we will see him playing a unique character, a character of a ghost. The coincidence here is that his Ek Duje Ke Vaaste's costar Nikita Dutta too will be seen in a new show on Sony TV while Namik too is busy with his upcoming show.
Pinkvilla exclusively got in touch with Namik where he got candid and spoke about his show. Here's an excerpt from the interview:
1) You and Nikita Dutaa worked on a show together and now both of you have your individual shows on the same channel, is there any kind of competition?
No, I don't think there is any sort of competition I hope everybody does well and honestly I don't even think about it because I am so busy with my own show. I am so occupied stressing about my own character since the launch is in a few days. it's a big deal for me, there is so much hard work put in the show and it could go completely wrong too, so there's already too much to think about to have any other kind of thoughts. There's no competition as both the shows are on the same channel and different time slots.
2) You're playing a unique character, we don't really see leading men playing ghosts on TV. Is there any kind of pressure that builds on to live up to such kind of roles?
That's something I cannot worry about, that's the story, and it's a great story otherwise I wouldn't have signed up. There will be some very nice twists that I can't disclose, and it's not like the regular TV shows you get to see in India. Ghosts are presented in a very different manner but my character is not like a typical ghost just randomly popping up and scaring people. There are layers to the character which is very exciting.
3) Did you take any kind of reference in order to get into the skin of your character?
So I have grown up watching X files, Supernatural and I am sure people who want to put me down will say that Oh this guy has copied the eyes from that character but that's something very common, deep black eyes are a very common thing for a ghostly character. We wanted the character to look like me but also a scary touch so we thought of the deep black eyes.
4) You are playing a very risky character that can either be liked or simply made fun of or hated, what do you have to say?
This doesn't bother me because I received a lot of backlashes even as a normal person, some weeks I may be called the greatest actor ever and some weeks if I didn't reply to their msg or their tweets then I become the worst actor ever.
5) Do you have any plans to venture out in Bollywood?
I am very very happy in Television, I am not looking for a way out, I am not desperate to get out. I don't look down on TV at all, when I came to Bombay I only wanted to do movies, Anybody who comes here wants to do a YRF or a Dharma movie. But what I realized through TV is that you get a larger reach and I am happy with what I am doing.
