Kaala Teeka actress Daljeet Kaur talks to Pinkvilla on playing Maa Durga in a Navratri special TV show
Television actress Daljeet Kaur has just been announced as the lead actress of a new TV show by BIG Magic, titled Maa Durga. The show will be a Navratri 2017 special, and will air only for a month, starting September 21. We spoke exclusively to Daljeet Kaur on her thoughts on playing Maa Durga and the challenge of shooting a mythoglogical, as also her career going forward.
Excerpts from a chat with Daljeet Kaur:
This is your first mythological show. What are your feelings while shooting for it?
Frankly, I am scared, because Durga is a strong role. She is a Maa (mother - the creator) and the destroyer. Plus, the language is a little difficult while shooting. And it takes me 3 hours to get into the look of Maa Durga every day! My mukut (crown) itself is of 4 kgs.
Maa Durga is a Navratri 2017 special show, the first time such a show has aired. Your views?
Goddess Durga has her own aura and I am very blessed to have got the chance to play the character during the festival of Navratri. The feeling is beautiful! The story is about Maa Durga and Mahishasura.
After TV shows like Kaala Teeka, Kulvaddhu and Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?, is Maa Durga the role of a lifetime for you?
This role is food-for-soul for me! I've been wanting to play a strong character like Maa Durga. Post Kaala Teeka, my comeback in real terms is with Maa Durga. Kaala Teeka and post that, I have received positive reviews for my weight loss, also.
Do you see qualities Maa Durga in you?
Nobody can have her qualities! The first word 'Maa' is trues for me, of course, since I am a mother. But Durga is the Creator and the Destroyer and no one can be like her.
Do you think you will be offered more mythologicals after this show is over? Is it hectic to shoot such shows?
Never say never! Maa Durga was also offered to me at a short notice. Since it is hectic to shoot in Baroda, the production house is pampering my son Jaydon who I have carried along, as I cannot leave him alone for a month.
Maa Durga is certainly adding good feelings to your personal life, isn't it?
Definitely, and I am enjoying the challenge.
We read that you have stopped eating non-vegetarian food because of Maa Durga...
It is because of the entire aura of the character of Maa Durga, the costumes and dialogues, that I felt the need to do so.
Talking about Navratri the festival, have you been part of Dandiya nights?
We all have been since childhood - dressing up for the nine days of Navratri. But even as a celebrity, I have visited Durga Puja pandals and Dandiya. Once in Gujarat, there were around 12,000 people doing the same step of Dandiya and the energy was unbelievable!
