Ishqbaaaz: Bidding adieu to Nakuul Mehta & Surbhi Chandna's onscreen jodi aka Shivika, flawed yet most perfect
Television's favourite couple, Shivika, bids adieu to the audience today in Ishqbaaaz but here's why they will always remain iconic. Read on.
As the love story of Shivika aka Shivaay Singh Oberoi (Nakuul Mehta) and Annika (Surbhi Chandna) ends in Ishqbaaaz to unfold another chapter, fans with teary eyes have been crying foul, demanding the show is brought to an end with "their" Shivika. But what many fail to understand is every good thing comes to an end but what never fades away are the memories and the good work an artist has done. That is remembered and will forever be. Just like Shivika. The amount of effort Nakuul and Surbhi along with the team has put into making Shivika a brand, an identity, a hashtag, will always be remembered and fondly so.
What made them so quintessentially romantic yet unique? The fact that they were flawed and real. The fact that they always challenged the societal norms and were not your regular hero and heroine. The fact that they made mistakes and repented. The fact that they made imperfection look perfect. Whenever asked, the duo maintained that the magic (they create onscreen) just happens, there is no formula or strategy behind it, it is just mutual respect and admiration for each other’s work. That is exactly the kind of relationship Shivika shared, that of equals. The tone for the show was set in the very first episode as Shivaay's crude show of power, his tadi, was cruelly mowed down by Annika's khidkothod-ness as she slammed his car window shields off and how! If he was a Bhaggad Billa, she was khidkithod. If he was about Naam Khoon Khandaan, she was about being just Annika. If he was about status, she was about integrity, but what the duo shared in common was Ishq for families stemming out of two completely different circumstances.
Shivika’s journey has been one of a kind. From being at a battle with each other over the naam khoon khandaan shackles to finding love in each other to marriage and sacrifice and reconciliation, the two managed to break away and learn so much together. While Shivaay managed to free himself from the archetype thoughts regarding name and status, Annika learnt to let go of herself a bit every day and endure relationships. She learnt to free herself from the boundaries, the hurt, the mindset she created around herself. Together they learnt to embrace their faults whilst changing nothing, absolutely nothing about their core nature. They did not complete each other, they were just two completely imperfect people making for Ishqbaaaz! The hurt, the sacrifice, the intimacy they shared and their ishqbaaazi made you feel like your own and that is perhaps the reason for the colossal love they have received.
A script is as good as executed by the actors and there is no qualm or second thought in lauding the work and chemistry exuded by Narbhi (as fans fondly call them). Nakuul plays Shivaay so effortlessly that it was difficult to see him the prism of SSO while Surbhi breathed a different life in Annika. Her quirkiness and on the toe thinking made Annika look so full of life and spunk. Together the dynamic duo has won several awards including all the best jodi awards and deservingly so!
