From Divyanka Tripathi-Vivek Dahiya winning Nach Baliye 8 to Kapil Sharma-Sunil Grover feud; Top TV Newsmakers of 1st half of 2017

It was just yesterday the year 2017 kick started and now have reached the half way towards the end of the year. In these six months, we saw several ups and downs happen in the television industry. Some left us shocked and sad with their stints, while others made us happy instantly.

As we reach the half of 2017, let's take a look at the top 10 newsmakers who made headlines for a long time.

1. Kapil Sharma - Sunil Grover feud

This definitely has to be the top newsmaker of maybe the whole 2017. In the month of March, a fight broke out between Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover on a flight as they were on their way back to India from Australia. During the fight, an inebriated Kapil yelled and screamed abuses at Sunil by saying, "Tu mera naukar hai, tere show flop tha." Reports have it, he went on to slap him too. This incident led to Sunil exiting from The Kapil Sharma Show along with Ali Asgar and Chandan Prabhakar. Sunil took to his Twitter page and lashed out at Kapil for his behaviour. He said, "Just one advice, start respecting human beings apart from animals. Not everyone is as successful as you are. All are not talented as you are, but if all are talented then who will watch you. Have some gratitude towards their existence. Also if someone is correcting you, dont abuse that person. Refrain from using foul language in front of women who have nothing to do with your stardom, they are just by chance travelling with you. Thanks for making me realise that it was your show and you have the power to throw anybody out anytime. You are the wittiest in your field, but don't act like a 'God'. Take Good Care." Recently, when a fan asked Kapil about getting Sunil on the show, he said, "Jab b unka dil kare.. I told him many times .."

Recently, Chandan joined back TKSS and when Pinkvilla quizzed him about the same, he stated, "See, whatever happened back then is a thing of the past, so let's leave that aside. Talking about why I joined back, every action has a reaction. It has a proper time and back then, I gave a reaction. Now, we can't really stretch it. Even real brothers fight, it doesn't mean that we will stay like this forever."

2. Kapil Sharma girlfriend

Just a couple of days after the infamous spat between Kapil and Sunil, Sharma made his relationship with girlfriend Ginni Chatrath on social media. He tweeted a picture with Ginni saying, "Will not say she is my better half .. she completes me .. love u ginni .. please welcome her .. I love her so much:)" When a leading daily asked him about his marriage plans Kapil said, "Yes, I am getting married to Ginni and she is the love of my life. I have known her for 10 years since my college days in Jalandhar. I used to go to her college to do stand-up comedy. I fell in love with her first, then my mother fell in love with her and that's when I felt I should make it official. She not only completes me but is my better half."

3. Shilpa Shinde files FIR against producer Sanjay Kohli for alleged sexual harassment charges

Shilpa Shinde, who became a household name with her role in Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hain held a press conference where she made shocking revelations about being sexually harassed by the producer of the show Sanjay Kohli. She said, "Sanjay ji told me that for the promotion of the show, we will have to go out and that we will have a nice time. Also, in the make-up room, he came close to me and photo lete huye and apna haath rakha mujhe. I could feel that touch was not right."

4. Divyanka Tripathi and Vivek Dahiya win Nach Baliye 8

We were the first one to break the news that Divyanka Tripathi and Vivek Dahiya bagged the Nach Baliye 8 trophy. Talking about their big win, Vivek said, "This is my first award and staring at it right now I feel its all the more special as I am sharing it with my wife.  Its been a beautiful journey and the trophy is the best anniversary gift we could have gotten. This show is about companionship and we have had such a wonderful journey together in which we got the opportunity to spend more time, understand each other and kept challenging ourselves with new forms of dance every week and ultimately growing together as dancers." 

Whereas Divyanka added, "We have gone from baraati dancers to having learnt so many forms of dance and challenging ourselves week after week to keep trying something new and learning something different.  And the support we have received from our audience has been the most special part of this journey!  They have brought the trophy home and we are all the more grateful to them for having been with us in this journey!"

5. Karanvir Bohra and his twins

 In October 2016, Karanvir Bohra and wife Teejay Sidhu welcomed their twins after 10 years of their marriage. Last month Teejay revealed the name of her little munchkins with a beautiful picture. She said, "And here is my little #squad - KV, Vienna, Raya Bella and me. :) @karanvirbohra Thank you for arranging this photo shoot - a perfect Mother's Day gift - our first family photo. :) I still can't believe how fast our little world changed! We were happily living our lives and one fine day, God throws us TWO curve balls! Haha! 6. Karan Mehra and Nisha Rawal embrace parenthood

One of the cutest couple of television Karan Mehra and Nisha Rawal became parents recently. On June 14, they welcomed their baby boy and Karan took to his Instagram page to make this happy announcement. He posted a picture of the cute little legs of his son and captioned it saying, "The littlest feet make the biggest footprints in our hearts, this is something that cannot be expressed in just words. We are ready for this new journey with our little blessing that has arrived in the form of a beautiful baby boy." Moreover, Nisha posted the first picture of their son and people couldn't stop gushing over it. She also revealed the name, Kavish Mehra. Captioning the picture, Nisha said, "14th of June 2017, we were touched by an angel in the form of a baby boy. We now call him & introduce to you "KAVISH MEHRA". Our joy would be incomplete without sharing this blessed news with you. 3 fold love from the 3 of us"

7. Pratyusha Banerjee's first year death anniversary

On April 1, 2017, it was Pratyusha Banerjee's first death anniversary. Kamya Punjabi held a prayer meet in the city for her best friend. She even showcased the last short film of which Pratyusha was a part and it was gut-wrenching. Pratyusha's boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh lashed out at Kamya for releasing the short film. He said, "I have lost my girlfriend last year on 1st April 2016. On 27/3/2017 I was shocked to read that Kamya Punjabi has given an interview and declared that she is releasing one short film based on the life of my girlfriend Pratyusha Banerjee and she has portrayed my character in an abusive manner. Further, she has used my girlfriend Pratyusha's old video as a new one." That led to a spat between Kamya and Pratyusha's boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh, who accused Kamya for doing it all for fame.

8. Bigg Boss 10 Manveer Gurjar declared winner

Manveer Gurjar went on to become the first commoner to win the reality show Bigg Boss in its 10th season.This season of BB was one of the most controversial and filthiest ever. From Om Swami's dirty stints to celebrities fighting with each other in a never-seen-before way, this season will be one of the unforgettable indeed!

9. Year of comebacks/spinoff 

This year, we saw the comeback of the most loved comedy show Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. The funny show made its comeback in the form of web series titled Sarabhai vs Sarabhai Take 2. Since the makers announced that the show is making a grand comeback, fans couldn't handle their excitement to see the crazy family after a decade. Another show Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon is coming back with the third season. The show will mark the comeback of heartthrob Barun Sobti opposite Shivani Tomar. This news received mixed reaction from the fans as they were happy to see Barun back on the tube but unhappy with the fact that he is not paired opposite Sanaya Irani like the first season.

Moreover, we have two spin-off shows on television and that is Dil Bole Oberoi, which is created from Ishqbaaz and Kundali Bhagya a spin-off of Zee TV's hit show Kumkum Bhagya.
