From Drashti Dhami to Surbhi Chandna, Hina Khan to Divyanka Tripathi, these leading ladies of television sure have us all smitten.
Our television divas have always kept up with all the trends and in things that come in every year. And while they do always keep up with the fashion trends, they also keep at it as far as their acting skills are concerned. 2018 has seen some major style statements come through from out television actresses, and also a few great performances. While some much-awaited comebacks happened, many continued to do well on the already existing shows.
Right from Hina Khan's return to daily soaps as the iconic vamp Komolika to Surbhi Chandna's work in Ishqbaaaz, and of course Jennifer Winget in Bepannaah, there has been some meaningful content that television has brought, and they've been well executed by the female leads. Indian television is often said to be female-oriented but there's still a lot of efforts that the leading ladies put into everything they do, and it hasn't gone unnoticed to say the least. Here's our pick of the best television actresses from the year.
Surbhi Chandna
Surbhi Chandna as the 'khidkitod' Anika has always been a favourite of the viewers, and this year, the show bought about a lot of social messages too, which were very beautifully emoted by Surbhi. Surbhi has the kind of swag that other character could portray on Indian television, and we've seen how she's perfectly put it all together. She has also won multiple awards for her character, and they were all rightly deserved.
Jennifer Winget
Jennifer as Zoya was surreal. She emoted all those emotions so perfectly, and the transition from hating each other to falling in love with each other, Jennifer and Harshad have made Bepannaah a fan favourite in a mere seven months and their chemistry was totally sizzling. Seeing Jennifer as Maya first and then transform into the delicate Zoya just proved how she can totally get into the skin of the character she is given.
Hina Khan
Kites rise highest against the wind, not with it.. #LetsRiseAndShine #Komolika #KZK2
Hina Khan made her return to ficiton with Kasautii Zindagii Kay, and this time she did it in a negative role. After Akshara in Yeh Rishta, followed by her stints in two reality shows, this is a complete shift and she's aced it. Fans have been in awe of a vamp and it is a rare instance to see that happen. Hina as Komolika isn't just sizzling, but she is also convincing and with the last promo that we saw, she's definitely brought a lot more to the table along with Erica and Parth.
Drashti Dhami
Drashti as Nandini in Silsila Badalte Rishton Ka was a character that was as much loved as hated, her being the other woman in the relationship of her best friend Mauli (Aditi Sharma). However, Drashti pulled off the character with grace, and though she did leave the show, fans still miss it and are already waiting for her to make a comeback with another show.
Divyanka Tripathi
#MohabbateinMoments... Through the lens of @parthamitra64.
Yeh Hai Mohabbatein made another milestone this year as the show completed five years, and also 1500 episodes, and Divyanka has been the much loved Ishimaa ever since. Divyanka continues to be loved by all even today, and she has outdone herself in the show if nothing else. To sustain in a show for so long and still not be outdated is something that is obviously an achievement in itself and she is someone who has managed to do it well.
Erica Fernandes
Erica is still loved for her portrayal of Sonakshi Bose in Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi and it took everyone time to accept Erica opposite someone who isn't Shaheer Sheikh. However, once Kasautii Zindagii Kay went on air, everyone was convinced that she can develop a chemistry with anyone, and that Parth and Erica make for an equally great pairing. Erica has taken all the perfect cues from the original Prerna and mixed her own touch to it which is what makes the reboot a great show.
Shivangi Joshi
Shivangi as Naira is yet another actor who has seen multiple transitions on the show, right from being distant to divorce to being back in love and now the pregnancy track. The show too, through the character of Naira has incorporated multiple social messages, and Shivangi has been essential in giving them out with her acting prowess. She shares an impressive on-screen chemistry with Mohsin Khan, and that is something that adds to the overall feel of the show.
Eisha Singh
Eisha Singh as Zara in Ishq Subhan Allah has been a great performer in terms of acting, as well as the strong-headed character that she is in the show. Eisha has built a rapport with Adnan that makes it so effortless when they share screen space, and hence she makes it to this list of 2018's best. The show has been a game changer, and also has brought about a revolution as to how the television industry works with a delicate issue like Triple Talaaq.
