After about 14 years of its release, Shyam Benegal’s ‘Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero’ is all set to screened in Tokyo, Japan today, as the day marks Bose’s 123rd birth anniversary. The film is also set to be screened at the Red Fort on the same day to mark the inauguration of the digitised museum.

The biopic on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose captures the freedom fighter’s life and magnetism on screen. The 222-minute film is filled with adventure packed events in Netaji’s life. The film will have Japanese subtitles, making it a little more accessible to the Japanese audience. A year and a half worth's of research had gone into the film. From wading through the available material and meeting people like Netaji's Japanese interpreter, Benegal got his hands on whatever he could find from his research. The eternal mystery over the legendary freedom fighter’s death is wisely dodged by the director.

The role of Netaji is played by Sachin Khedekar. Khedekar went through some rigorous training to prepare himself for the role of Subhas Chandra Bose. This included listening to Bose’s speeches on tapes, getting rid of his Marathi accent, etc. The late Amrish Puri has also played a small part in the film which later had to be cut out for editing reasons.
