Gillette's latest advertisement with a #MeToo edge faces backlash for its 'toxic masculinity'
The advertisement by the razor brand has left numerous people furious and led them to boycott the brand.
In a new campaign by the razor brand, Gillette is encouraging men to be the best they can be, by setting an example to young boys. Their video seems to focus on the #MeToo movement and depicts scenes of little boys being bullied and catcalled. It has since, sparked a debate on social media and the advertisement has received almost 19 million views so far!
It has since garnered a lot of attention from big names like Piers Morgan who is a media person in Britain, and Hollywood actor James Woods has declared the advertisement an "attack on men." The creative director and global executive creative director of the advertisement does not seem to be convinced. Gemma Hunter brought to attention that at this time, talking is important. "The one thing they've done is spark a debate, but if you want to change behaviour this won't do it on its own," she said and also went on to reiterate that the message has to to be reinforced to send the message across to provide a means of communication and expression.

In a statement, Gillette said they wanted the video to be aspirational for men, especially those who haven't been at their best lately. "Our tagline needs to continue to inspire us all to be better every day and help create a new standard for boys to admire and men to achieve," the statement read that seemed like a response to the abusive, homophobic and violent slurs thrown at the brand.
While men were busy blowing off steam on social media about this, there were others who took the advertisement for what it was meant to show and rattled back at those offended.
