On the auspicious occasion of Krishna Janmashtami this year, Bollywood celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan and Sidharth Malhotra wished their fans on social media.
Krishna Janmashtami is a festival celebrated with joy and a lot of love and it helps in bringing families closer together. This festival celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, who is the eight avatar of Vishnu. It takes place on the eighth day during Krishna Paksha in the month of Shraavana according to the Hindu calendar. It is celebrated primarily in Mathura, which is Lord Krishna's birthplace but is also celebrated in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala amongst other cities in India.
Even Bollywood celebrities enjoy this festival with their families and some even participate in the dahi handi, which is one of the most enjoyable rituals during the festival of Krishna Janmashtami. Many a time, Bollywood movies and songs contain scenes as an ode to the festival - whether it be Maiyya Yashoda in Hum Saath Saath Hai (1999) or even Go Go Govinda in OMG - Oh My God! (2012).
