Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the famous and most celebrated festivals. The day celebrates the birthday of elephant-God Ganpati. The Ganpati festival celebrations this year will begin from September 2. The ten-day festival which is also known as Ganeshotsav or Vinayak Chaturthi is celebrated with great pomp and grandeur especially in Maharashtra. The festival is marked by bringing a clay idol of Lord Ganesha and by worshipping Him with special bhajans and artis. Right from cleaning home to preparing food (bhog) to decor, a week before the festival, devotees start the preparations. 

The annual festival which honors the Lord Ganesha usually falls in the month of August or September. The festival culminates on Ananth Chaturdashi, the day when idols of Ganpati are immersed.  The festival falls on the fourth day of Hindu lunisolar calendar month Bhadrapada. Elaborate pandals for Ganesha who is also known as Vigneshvara or Vighnaharta (Lord of obstacles) are constructed everywhere. People also enjoy and celebrate the same by sending Ganesh Chaturthi wishes, messages and pictures into near dear ones on WhatsApp, Facebook etc.
