Every year, Indians celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi with a lot of zest and enthusiasm. During the festival, people bring Ganesha idols to their house either for one and a half day, 5 days, 7 days or 11 days. Some people build huge pandals in their lanes or society and celebrate the festival together. The festival is widely celebrated in Maharashtra and also in some parts of the country. Ganesh Utsav began in the year 1893 because of Lokmanya Tilak. After he praised the sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav in Pune his newspaper called Kesari, since then it is celebrated in almost all parts of Maharashtra on a large scale.

The day Ganesha arrives, it is called as Ganesh Chaturthi and the day the visarjan is done, it is called Anant Chaturdashi. During these 11 days, people daily have Aarti twice a day and also MahaPuja a day or before the visarjan. Lord Ganesha is served different types of Modaks during his stay as it is his favourite sweet. Some pandal even organises a Bhandara, where people can go and eat the Prasad which usually comprises of khichdi rice, curry and shira. Along with Lord Ganesha, even the mouse is worshipped during these 11 days.

The mouse, which usually sits at Ganpati's feet is called his vahaan aka vehicle. The mouse is called Mooshika. One of the stories mentions that once a demon called Mooshikasura was creating mayhem in the world. The Gods sent Lord Ganesha to destroy Mooshikasura. However, even before Ganesha could attack Mooshikasura, the demon gazed at him and prayed and begged the Lord for forgiveness. Ganesha accepted his forgiveness only on one condition that Mooshikasura will serve him forever. He accepted Ganesha's condition after which Lord Ganesha blessed him and turned him into a house. This is how the demon Mooshikasura became Mooshika aka mouse and Ganesha's companion.

A video in which a mouse is taking a bath by himself is going viral on the internet. People are amazed to see this miracle.
