Lights and Celebrations - that’s what comes to our mind when we talk about the biggest celebration of Maharashtra - Ganesh Chaturthi. It’s time for Ganesha to visit our homes. Every year, 35 organisers and more than 1200 volunteers come together to help Mumbai’s most famous Ganesh Mandal, Lalbaugcha Raja. Over the last 84 years, it has become popular and larger with each passing year. Ganesh Chaturthi is a much loved and respected festival in India and celebrated with much gusto by all.

Set up in the Lalbaug area of Mumbai close to Lower Parel and Currey Road stations, Lalbaugcha Raja is famous not just for being one of the largest and oldest Ganpatis in the city but also for being a Navsacha Ganpati. Lalbaugcha Raja Mandal was set up in 1934 in the locality which was once known as Peru Chawl.  The Ganpati idol of Lalbaugcha Raja is created and designed by the Kambli family and they have been designing the idols since 1935.

Devotees wait for hours in long queues to finally get a chance to witness the grandeur of Lord Ganesha. The whole city is bustling with devotees chanting - Ganpati Bappa Morya - in the lanes of Mumbai. Lalbaugcha Raja is supposed to be the last idol in the city to be immersed, marking the end of the 11-day-long festivity. Many B-Town celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Shilpa Shetty, Emraan Hashmi, Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt are a regular at this pandal.

On this big occasion, we treat you with the pictures of Lalbaughca Raja from the last 10 years of the grand celebration.
