The 5-day long celebrations start from October 25th with Dhanteras which is followed by Chhoti Diwali on October 26th.
October 27th is the main day of the festival where a Diwali puja is conducted. It is further followed by Gowardhan Puja on 28th October and concluded on October 29th with Bhai Dooj. One of the very special days of it all is the main Diwali day where most Hindu households and businesses perform a puja ritual.
Significance of Diwali Festival:
Diwali is celebrated on the account of the return of Lord Ram to Ayodhya. It is celebrated after 20 days of Dusshera which is when Lord Ram killed Ravana and started his journey for the return. In the eastern regions of India, Diwali is that time of the year where they celebrate the victory of Kali over Demons.
Diwali also marks as the last financial day of the Hindu Calendar. On this day, businessmen perform puja with their books also known as Chopra Pujan, where they worship the Goddess of Wealth (Goddess Lakshmi) to bring wealth and prosperity in their ventures. This puja takes place because it is believed that the Goddess Laxmi herself emerged from Ksheer Sagar or the ocean of milk to shower everyone with wealth and prosperity on the New Year.
