Ian Joseph Somerhalder was born on December 8, 1978, in Covington, Louisiana, USA. He is an American actor, model and director, along with being a social worker.

He is best known for his role as Boone Carlyle in the TV drama 'Lost', Damon Salvatore in CW's popular drama 'The Vampire Diaries', and Dr. Luther Swan in the Netflix sci-fi horror series 'V Wars.' The actor has Sagittarius as his zodiac sign.

Personal info Ian is the son of Edna and Robert. His mother worked as a massage therapist and his father is a building contractor. Ian also has an elder brother and a younger sister in his family.

His early education was completed in Covington itself. He started pursuing modelling at the age of 10 and entered the acting world at the age of 17. In 2000, Ian played a small role in the web series, 'Young Americans.' In 2004, the character of Boone Carlyle in the famous TV show, 'Lost', gave a boost to his career.

In 2009, the actor starred as Damon Salvatore in 'The Vampire Diaries' and stole hearts with his acting and the bad boy persona of his character. He has been in a few relationships and even dated Nina Dobrev (his co-star in 'The Vampire Diaries'). In 2014, Ian came into the limelight for his relationship with actress Nikki Reed. In 2015, they made their relationship public and married in the same year. Their daughter Bodhi Soleil was born in 2017.

Social Work During the oil drilling disaster in the Deepwater Horizon in 2010, Ian was involved in the clean-up efforts being made to save the animals and people affected by the disaster and promoted social awareness by informing people about how they could take the initiative and help.

He organized the IS (Ian Somerhalder) Foundation in 2010. The purpose of the foundation is to spread awareness for the conservation of natural resources (forests, lands and wildlife) and aims to provide rehabilitation and relief work to the poor, distressed and underprivileged and co-operates with other organisations involved in social activities (under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code).

In addition to this, Ian is also involved in social activities like LGBTQ suicide prevention as he supports the 'It Gets Better Project'.
