PS5 new firmware brings performance improvements to selected games
In the latest show of Digital Foundry Direct Weekly, the crew revealed the difference between the performance of old and new firmware.
Recently Sony rolled out a big firmware update for the PlayStation 5 which brings a big update that makes it possible to expand the system storage of the next-gen gaming console. In the latest development, some experts are also claiming that the new update has also improved the performance of some selected game titles. In the latest show of Digital Foundry Direct Weekly, the crew revealed the difference between the performance of old and new firmware.
"In very select scenarios, it does seem as though [all] PlayStation 5s are running faster than they were before with this new firmware," IGN India quoted Digital Foundry's Richard Leadbetter as saying.

According to Leadbetter, the performance improvement is very minor. He claims that the new firmware is offering improvement in performance on games like Control and Devil May Cry 5. The game titles are running 2 to 3 per cent faster and better as compared to the previous firmware, this improvement is allowing the console to deliver better framerate, but don’t expect too much as the difference is only by 1 or 2 FPS.
The IGN report suggests that the new discovery came into consideration when Digit Foundry was testing the PS5 hardware revision. As we all know, Sony has improved the cooling system of the PS5 and now all the new PS5 units are going to arrive with a better cooling system assembly. Alongside, the company has also improved the stand and some of the minor changes.
However, Digital Foundry also claims that they didn’t find any significant differences between the launch edition and the revised version of PS5. Instead, they discovered that the older version of the PS5 used to work slightly better than the revised version, but that was because the older version was running on a new firmware and the revised one was on old firmware. That’s all from the new firmware, and how it impacted some of the game titles.
