Niantic announces Pokemon Go's Halloween Event to begin this week

Pokemon Go's current Season of Mischief is in its halfway and it is preparing for Halloween. The event includes new storey content, bonuses, creepy costumes for both Pokemon and Trainers, and an increase in the number of spooky Pokemon in the world. Niantic announced in its October 11 update.

The Season of Mischief storyline continues, with trainers being tasked with tracking down the legendary Pokemon Hoopa.

The Halloween event will bring two new updates to the Hoopa investigation, the first of which will be available on October 15, and the second on October 22. There will also be a new Special Research storey centred on the mask-wearing Pokemon Yamask.

Throughout October, the GO Battle League will receive a Halloween Cup, as well as Timed Research tasks based on Cup participation.

Several extra bonuses will be available throughout the event, including double Transfer Candy, Catch Candy, Hatch Candy, and guaranteed Candy XL when you walk with your buddy.

Niantic is bringing back the iconic Lavender Town theme, with a remixed version of the song playing nightly during the event, which is exciting news for fans of old-school Pokemon. Those looking to get into the Halloween spirit can also purchase several new Halloween-themed avatar items and bundles, as well as keep an eye out for wild Pikachu, Piplup, and Drifblim dressed in spooky costumes.

The featured Pokemon will rotate between the two parts of the event: the first is Creepy Companions, which runs from October 15 to October 22 and features Psychic and Poison-type Pokemon.

Galarian Slowking makes its debut in the game after evolving from Galarian Slowpoke, which is available from one-star raids during the event. Several Psychic and Poison-type Pokemon will appear in the wild, raids, eggs, and field research encounters; the full list can be found here.

The second part of the event, Ghoulish Pals, will take place from October 22 to October 31 and will feature Ghost-type Pokemon.

This event will see the introduction of several new Pokemon, including Phantump, Trevenant, Pumpkaboo, and Gourgeist. Niantic is also introducing a new mechanic in which Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist will appear in four different sizes, each of which will be visually distinct in-game.

Many more Ghost-type Pokemon will be available in wild encounters, raids, eggs, and field research encounters. The complete list for the second half of this event can be found here.
