Lenovo is all set to enter the gaming console market with Legion Play; Everything you need to know

Lenovo seems to be working on a gaming console aiming to enter the gaming sector with full blast. In the past couple of months, we have witnessed some leaks and rumours about the upcoming gaming console from the brand. Now in the fresh leak, the renders of the Legion Play have surfaced on the web revealing some of the vital information about the handheld gaming console. Let’s have a better look at the leak and find out what’s new for us.

Legion Play leaked renders

According to the latest report from Android Authority, the latest renders of the upcoming Android-based gaming console appeared on GBA Temp by a user. The user suggests that the images were linked to Lenovo’s official website confirming the moniker Legion Play. Furthermore, the report also suggests that the leaked renders were uploaded by the company’s Japan and German unit’s on MWC 2021 webpages. This clearly suggests that Lenovo was planning to introduce the device at the MWC event but for some reason, it has decided to hold the launch. It might be because of a shortage in the semiconductor and component market.

Sony and Microsoft are already facing issues with the shortage of components which is causing huge consequences to both companies. Both are unable to fulfil the demand of the next-gen gaming console and already declared a scarcity of restocking until 2022. Looking at this scenario Lenovo might have dropped the plan.

Going with the leaked renders we can say that the Legion Play is a handheld gaming console like Nintendo Switch and it runs on the Android operating system with a custom launcher. The images also confirm the existence of the NVIDIA GeForce GPU which means that the graphics processing is taken care of by Nvidia. The render also shows that the gaming console has Play Store which will allow users to download games and applications. On the connectivity part, the gaming console features a USB Type C port and a 3.5mm audio jack. The gamepad has a dual analogue stick, four face buttons, shoulder buttons and a D-Pad.

“Designed for AAA gaming, the Lenovo Legion Play is the first Android cloud gaming console. The console lets users play hundreds of cloud games, stream their game library, or play mobile games. It features a 7 inch 16:9 FHD bezel less display, HDR 10, built-in controllers, dual speakers, dual vibration, and a 7,000mAh battery to provide the best gaming experience. Our developer program is open to all game developers. Coming soon in select markets,” the report quoted the description available on the website.
