EA to offer free Battlefield 2042 PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrades for all digital players
EA has announced that players who purchase the standard digital edition of Battlefield 2042 will be able to upgrade for free from the PS4 or Xbox One to the new-gen PS5 or Xbox Series X/S versions. This is a departure from EA's previous policy, which required players to own the more expensive Gold Edition in order to be eligible for an upgrade.
This means that anyone who buys Battlefield 2042 digitally on either platform is guaranteed a PS5, Xbox Series X, or Xbox Series S version at any time.
Battlefield 2042's standard digital edition on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S now includes EA's 'dual entitlement' feature, which means it includes both generations of the game.
EA has only announced this feature for the digital version of Battlefield 2042 so far, and it appears that physical copies of the game will not include the dual entitlement new-gen upgrade, at least for the time being.
EA has not yet explained what this policy change means for physical owners, and it appears that owners of a physical copy of Battlefield 2042 may still have to pay $99.99/£89.99 for the aforementioned Gold Edition to receive a new-gen upgrade.
This was all announced right before the Battlefield 2042 beta goes live for all players this week on October 8.
However, if users pre-ordered any edition of the game, they will have early access to the beta starting tomorrow, October 6, at midnight P.T./3 a.m. ET/8 a.m. BST.

Battlefield 2042's final release date is November 19, after the shooter was originally scheduled to launch later this month.
EA has also launched the soundtrack of Battlefield 2042’s. It’s composed by Hildur Guðnadóttir and Sam Slater, both of whom composed and worked on the sound design for Chernobyl and Joker, for which they won an Oscar.
Select tracks from the soundtrack will be cleared for use in streams and videos by Content Creators, and EA encourages users to use them to enhance their content. Users can also use these tracks to create content during Battlefield 2042's Open Beta, which runs from October 6th to October 10th (Early Access users will be able to play starting on October 6).
