Call of Duty: Warzone Ricochet anti-cheat is a kernel-level system designed to detect all cheaters.
Call of Duty: Warzone will receive a powerful new anti-cheat system that will bolster security by utilising a kernel-level driver. It was announced through a social post by the publisher.
Ricochet Anti-Cheat will be released on PC alongside the Pacific update for Call of Duty: Warzone later this year, followed by a release on Call of Duty: Vanguard at a later date.
For the uninitiated, kernel-level anti-cheat systems have come under fire because they can access a broader range of software and applications on your PC, including your graphics card driver.
The advantage is that the anti-cheat driver can detect suspicious behaviour and provide developers with more data to combat cheaters, but what irritates some people is that it can monitor and manage your data beyond the application level.
However, Activision is fully aware of some of the privacy concerns raised by kernel-level anti-cheat software and assures that the software will only be activated when you launch Call of Duty and will shut down as soon as you exit the application.
According to the publisher, Ricochet's anti-cheat driver will only access data related to Call of Duty. To provide some context, many games, including Fortnite, Fall Guys, Apex Legends, Gears 5, Genshin Impact, Valorant, and others, use kernel-level anti-cheat drivers.
The kernel-level driver is the new anti-cheat system's main highlight, but Activision claims Ricochet also adds "a broad enhancement to the security" of Call of Duty Warzone and Vanguard, including more advanced machine learning algorithms.
Finally, Activision says that player reports and two-factor authentication will continue to be important in the ongoing battle against Warzone cheaters, so keep up the good fight on your end as well.
