We will be neutral when it comes to selection of Head Coach, says CAC member Anshuman Gaekwad
The CAC has said that it would remain neutral while selecting the Head Coach and other members of the support staffs. Few days before, skipper Virat Kohli said that he would ideally want Ravi Shastri to continue as the Head Coach of the National side
Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy have been appointed by the BCCI as Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) members to appoint Team India's new Head Coach and other support staffs who will be travelling with the team. The deadlines for the applications for various posts including the head coach, bowling coach, batting coach and fielding coach got over on Tuesday.
Recently, skipper Virat Kohli while addressing a press conference said that he would be happy if Ravi Shastri continues as the Head Coach of the national side.
Member of the CAC, Anshuman Gaekwad said, "There’s no question of what Kohli says or anybody says. If you remember the appointment of women’s coach, there was a lot of controversies. But we didn’t take anyone’s opinion."
When asked if they would go ahead with Ravi Shastri considering the fact that he has got the backing from skipper, he said, "See, whatever Virat Kohli or Ravi Shastri may say, we have to adhere to BCCI. We have nothing to do with that. We are neutral and we would go with an open mind."
He also said the members of the committee led by 1983 World Cup skipper Kapil Dev are awaiting the BCCI guidelines on coach selection as they are yet to discuss the matter among themselves.
"We will act as per the guidelines. We are waiting for that. I have been a coach in the past so too was Kapil. The important thing is man-management, planning, and technical expertise. These three things are most important for a coach to succeed. The Indian team is doing well. But to get them to do better these are the three things. There are a lot of things. But these are the main things. We the committee are yet to talk within ourselves. We have no idea when we’re meeting. So, just wait and watch."
