Wahab Riaz follows Mohammad Amir; to announce retirement from Test cricket
After Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz has decided to hang up his boots from the Test format.
After Pakistan's Mohammad Amir retired from Test cricket, it is being speculated that seamer Wahab Riaz will hang up his boots from the longest format soon too. The 34-year old has informed the Pakistan Cricket Board of his decision and will make a formal announcement after returning from the Global T20 League in Canada.
Riaz has played 27 Tests in his career, picking up 83 wickets with best bowling figures of 5/63. He last played a Test match against Australia in 2018.
Amir, who at 27, retired from Test cricket has been criticized by legends Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar and Ramiz Raja, who stated that T20 is forcing a talented youngster to retire from Tests. However, Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur has stated that he was aware of Amir's plans.
"It was on the cards for a long while. Amir had been speaking to me about it for some time now. His Test career was taking a strain on his body," Arthur told ESPNCricinfo.
"It's not about management here. It's about his desire to play Test cricket and the effects it has on his body... reluctantly I accepted his decision because that's what he wanted to do and that's what he thought was best for himself."
