Virender Sehwag: Virat Kohli should break Sachin Tendulkar's record of 100 hundreds in cricket
Kohli, who has 43 ODI hundreds is just seven hundreds short of breaking Sachin's 49 ODI tons, while he is 26 short of breaking Sachin's Test hundred record. Sachin had made 51 Test tons in his career.
Former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag feels that current Team India skipper Virat Kohli is well on his way of breaking maestro Sachin Tendulkar's milestone of hundred hundreds in international cricket, which he made across formats. Kohli, who has 43 ODI hundreds is just seven hundreds short of breaking Sachin's 49 ODI tons, while he is 26 short of breaking Sachin's Test hundred record. Sachin had made 51 Test tons in his career.
Sehwag feels that the landmark should not be too steep for the current captain.
"The rate at which he (Virat) is scoring centuries it won't take him long to beat Tendulkar's record of centuries. Records are meant to be broken and I do feel that Virat will break that record of 100 international centuries, held by Tendulkar," Sehwag told India Today.
"One record that I suspect may not be broken could be that of 200 Tests. Rest all records can be broken. For once it did seem that Alastair Cook could reach that magical figure but even he couldn't," said Sehwag.
The aggressive opener also believed that there was nothing wrong with Kohli prefering Ravi Shastri, who was re-appointed as the head coach last week, to work with him, stating that the relationship the two share can benefit the side.
"I believe a lot of coaches did apply (for the head coach's job). The decision was taken by Kapil Dev's committee and they feel that Shastri is the best man we have to become the head coach of India. Shastri's record has also been good. We are no.1 team in Tests, in ODIs too we have done well. It is a good combination of captain and coach, so there was no reason to separate them and accordingly CAC made its choice," said Sehwag.
