Indian skipper Virat Kohli stated that he would be happy if head coach Ravi Shastri's contract was extended after the West Indies tour, as the side has fared well under him. Ahead of the tour to West Indies, Kohli, in the pre-series press conference gave his views on the choice of head coach.

"If the CAC wants my advice or opinion, I'll speak to them. With Ravi Bhai, we share a great camaraderie and have mutual respect,” Kohli said at the team’s pre-departure press conference in Mumbai.

“We will be very happy if he continues since we have done well under him. But I haven't been contacted by the CAC, I don't know what is going to happen in the process. That's where it stands."

Shastri, whose contract ended after the World Cup, was given a 45-day extension while the BCCI invited applications for a new coach. Shastri will be with the team during the West Indies tour. Team India were knocked out in the semis of the recent World Cup 2019, with a few selection and tactical decisions coming under the scanner.

Commenting on India's first tour after the World Cup, Kohli stated that it was disappointing that the Men in Blue were knocked out in the semis despite finihsing first in the league stage, but admitted that moving on was the key.

“It's an important time for the team to regroup. I know we were all very disappointed with not going into the World Cup final, but we have to move on.”

"Winning the World Cup would've been the icing on the cake, but that takes nothing away from the boys' performance,” he added.

He now looks ahead to the T20I and the ODI series against Windies, where a number of new faces have been included.

"The ODI side is more or less balanced. I'm particularly excited about the first three T20Is. Some youngsters have shown great composure in tournaments such as the IPL and other domestic cricket."

The first T20I starts from Augustr 3.
