Virat Kohli did not influence coach selection, says Kapil Dev
CAC member Kapil Dev said that Virat Kohli did not have a say while selecting the Head Coach of the national team earlier in the day
Former India captain and member of the BCCI appointed Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) said that Ravi Shastri's appointment as the Head Coach was not influenced by Virat Kohli. The CAC had clearly mentioned that it judged the candidates on these parameters namely - coaching philosophy, experience of coaching, achievements in coaching, communication and knowledge of modern coaching tools.
Ahead of the departure to the tour of West Indies, skipper said, "The CAC hasn't contacted me yet. If they want my opinion I'll go and speak to them. With Ravi bhai, we share a great camaraderie and will definitely be very happy if he continues. But I haven't been contacted so far."
When asked whether Kohli influenced the decision, Kapil Dev said, "Not at all, because if we take his views we would have to take the entire team's views too. We haven't asked anyone. There was not scope for that."
Under Ravi Shastri, the Men in Blue have performed exceedingly well. He guided the team to the No.1 spot in Test cricket, won the Test series Down Under for the first time ever and also reached the semifinals of the ICC World Cup 2019.
When asked about India's exit in the World Cup semifinals for successive times in 2015 and 2019, Kapil said, "If any manager don't win a World Cup with any team, they should be sacked? No, you look at the overall picture and we are not looking at that, we are looking at what presentation he has given, we have gone by that."
Another member of the CAC, Anshuman Gaekwad told about the advantage that Shastri had over other candidates, "Basically, being the current coach, knowing the boys well, knowing the problems well in the team and what needs to be done. I think he is well-versed with the entire system, knows the players well and can communicate well, I think he has the advantage."
