Sunil Gavaskar lashes out at critics questioning the legality of Jasprit Bumrah's action
As he became the third Indian to pick up a hattrick on Saturday, the stump mics caught skipper Virat Kohli exclaiming, "what a bowler man! What a bowler", which indicates how effective Bumrah has been since his entry.
Jasprit Bumrah, who picked up a hattrick on Day 2 of the second Test between India and West Indies, was backed ferociously by commentators Sunil Gavaskar and Ian Bishop after the latter revealed on air that some critics had questioned the legality of Bumrah's bowling. India's Gavaskar, who was also in the commentary box at the time, lashed out at the detractors, stating that they 'should get a life.'
"I cannot believe some people questioning the legality of Jasprit Bumrah's action," Ian Bishop said during the commentary.
"His action is unique but is well within the rules of the game. In fact, it's one of the cleanest ones. Some people really need to look in the mirror" Bishop added.
Gavaskar went on to ask Bishop to mention the names of these critics. However, the West Indian did not take names.
"Can you name them? Who are these people questioning Bumrah's action?" Asked Gavaskar.
"Let's look at it closely A few steps and then he gathers momentum and finally releases the ball with a straight arm. Now tell me at what point his arm is bent? It's perfectly fine. People should really get a life," Gavaskar said.
Bumrah, who has impressed with his perfection of the inswingers and outswingers, has been around for less than four years in international cricket, but has already made his presence felt, with his deliveries making life miserable for the rival batters. As he became the third Indian to pick up a hattrick on Saturday, the stump mics caught skipper Virat Kohli exclaiming, "what a bowler man! What a bowler", which indicates how effective Bumrah has been since his entry.
