Steven Smith, who scored two hundreds in the recent Ashes Test against England at Edgbaston, closed in on Indian skipper Virat Kohli in the ICC Test rankings. After dropping to fourth position from the number one spot due to a year's ban in ball-tampering saga in South Africa last year, the Aussie surpassed Cheteshwar Pujara and is now the number three batsman in the ICC rankings.

His knocks of 144 and 142 won him the Man of the Match award and he is now above the 900-point mark along with Kohli (922 points) and New Zealand's skipper Kane Williamson, who has 913 points. He had started the Test match with 857 points.

Aussie spinner Nathan Lyon, whose nine wickets in the game lifted him up by six points is now 13th in the points table.

Pacer Pat Cummins, who was number one in the rankings before the Test, further consolidated his position with a seven-wicket haul, and he now has a career-best rating points of 898.
