Sri Lanka vs New Zealand: Kane Williamson and Akila Dananjaya reported for bowling action during first Test
While Williamson is a part-time bowler and the suspect action will not affect his career much, Dananjaya, a spinner, will need to rework on his action
New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson has been reported for suspect bowling action along with Sri Lanka's Akila Dananjaya after the first Test between the two teams that was played at Galle last week.
Both players are right-arm off-break spinners, and their respective actions came under the scaneer after the game ended on Saturday. Sri Lanka won the match to go 1-0 up in the series.
"The match officials' report, which was handed over to the management of both teams, cited concerns about the legality of the bowling actions of both players," the ICC statement read.
The duo will undergo a testing within 14 days from the date their action was reported (August 18), and till the results are not known, they can bowl in international cricket.
Dananjaya was the star performer for his team, as he scalped six wickets in the game, including a five-wicket haul in the first innings. He has thus far played six Tests for his country, picking 33 wickets at an average of less than 25.
Williamson, on the other hand, bowled only three overs in the first game. He is a part-time bowler, and the results of the test are unlikely to affect his international career much.
