Fast bowlers Trent Boult and Tim Southee were the stars for New Zealand in a rain-affected day against Sri Lanka on Day 2 of the second Test that is being held at Colombo. The duo picked two wickets apiece, as Sri Lanka reached 144 for six at lunch, when the rains came pouring down. No further play was possible, and only 29.3 overs were bowled in the day. Dhananjaya de Silva and Dilruwan Perera were at the crease, batting on 32 and 5 respectively.

Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne was the only positive for the hosts on the day, as he moved from 49 to 65. Sri Lanka, resuming on 85 for two, were jolted early by Boult, who picked two wickets in an over to send the Lankans in trouble. He sent back Angelo Mathews for two, and became only the third bowler from New Zealand to get 250 Test wickets. He then trapped Kusal Perera LBW for no score after only three balls, as the Lankans slipped to 93 for 4.

Southee too picked up two wickets in an over, as the Kiwis pitched in with a good display of swing bowling under overcast conditions. He had Karunaratne caught behind after the skipper got his 23rd Test fifty, and then sent back Niroshan Dickwella for nought.

Dilruwan and de Silva, then ensured, that no further wickets fell.
