Sri Lanka vs New Zealand 2nd T20I Live Score: Kiwis seal series in close game
New Zealand won the second game of the three-match T20I series to take an unassailable 2-0 lead against Sri Lanka.
New Zealand won their second game in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka by four wickets and two balls to spare to take an unassailable 2-0 lead at Kandy.
Chasing a target of 162, the Kiwis lost three early wickets in the first six overs, but the duo of Colin de Grandhomme and Tom Bruce ensured that the visitors were always in the hunt. The all-rounder de Grandhomme scored a fine 59 in only 46 balls, while Bruce got 53 in 46 deliveries. Though the New Zealand team lost two wickets in the last over when only 7 runs were needed, Mitchell Santner kept his nerves under check as he finished the game with two hits to the boundary.
Earlier in the day, Lasith Malinga had won the toss and opted to bat first. The decision did not prove to be the best one as the two openers were sent back early, but the duo of Avishka Fernando and Niroshan Dickwella put on 68 runs for the third wicket to get the team back into the game.
The hosts huffed and puffed their way to 161, as skipper Tim Southee starred, picking up 2 wickets in his four overs whilst giving away only 18 runs.
