Sri Lanka fast bowler and captain of the T20I team, Lasith Malinga, became the leading wicket-taker in T20Is after he grabbed two wickets and surpassed Shahid Afridi's tally of 98 wickets.
Conceding 23 runs in his 4 overs against New Zealand in the first T20I, Malinga is now at 99 wickets from 74 games, going past Afridi's 98 wickets, which he had taken in 99 games.
Malinga got the wickets of Colin Munro in the first over of the Kiwi innings to go level with Pakistani all-rounder Afridi. He then came back in the death overs to send back Colin de Grandhomme for 44 to become the leading wicket-taker in the shortest format.
After Malinga and Afridi, Shakib Al Hasan (88 wickets), Umar Gul (85), Saeed Ajmal (85) and Rashid Khan with 75 scalps follow.
