Sourav Ganguly: I am interested in becoming India coach one day
Sourav Ganguly has showed his interest in coaching the Indian team, but stated that his hands are full at the moment. Former skipper Rahul Dravid is the current coach of the India A and the India Under-19 teams.
Former captain Sourav Ganguly stated that he would want to coach Team India in the future, but has no interest at this moment.
The hunt for the new India coach is on, with the BCCI inviting applications for the same after current coach Ravi Shastri's tenure ended with the World Cup. However, he was given a 45-day extension so that the team would not be without a coach on their tour to West Indies. The board had been eager to start the process of hunting for a new man at the helm after the World Cup to avoid any distraction, hence the delay in selecting a new coach.
"Definitely, I'm interested but not at this point of time. Let one more phase go then I will throw my name into the fray," Ganguly said.
The left-hander is currently the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal and is also the team advisor of IPL team Delhi Capitals. He also hosts a Bengali quiz show, owns an ISL football team and is also a commentator.
"Currently, I'm associated with too many things -- IPL, CAB, TV commentary. Let me complete this. But I will definitely put my hat at some stage. Provided I get selected. But definitely I'm interested. Not now but in the future," Ganguly said.
