Former Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar said that England's Jofra Archer lacked "courtesy" after bowling a dangerous bouncer to Steve Smith that floored the Aussie batsman on Day 4 of the second Ashes Test that is being held at Lord's.

"Bouncers are a part & parcel of the game but whenever a bowler hits a batsman on the head and he falls, courtesy requires that the bowler must go & check on him. It was not nice of Archer to just walk away while Smith was in pain. I was always the first one to run to the batsman," Akhtar tweeted.

Smith, who was hit on the neck, had to retire hurt for 40 minutes yesterday, but returned and added 12 more runs to his tally. He was on 80 when Archer hit him on the unprotected part of his neck. The English players rushed to Smith immediately, as the medical team of both England and Australia rushed to tend to him in the middle.

He got back up on his feet but clearly looked dazed, and he had to leave for the hospital for scans. He was cheered as he walked out of the field and once again when he walked back to bat, resuming his innings at 80.

However, he felt discomfort on Day 5 of the game, and was ruled out of the match, and might even miss the next Test.
