1. Sachin Tendulkar is India's first active cricketer to be nominated for the Rajya Sabha. Also the first sportsman to win the Bharat Ratna. 

2. He wanted to be a fast bowler initially, but was rejected by the Dennis Lillee MRF Pace Foundation in 1987 as he was too skinny. 

3. He was a ball boy for the match between India and Zimbabwe during the 1987 World Cup, aged 14. 

4. He fielded for Pakistan as a substitute during a one-day practice match against India at the Brabourne Stadium in 1988. 

5. Tendulkar would win a coin from his coach Ramakant Achrekar in his childhood, if he could bat an entire day of nets without getting out. The player has 13 such coins. 

6. He became the world's richest cricketer in October 1995, when he signed a five-year contract worth Rs. 31.5 crore with World Tel. 

7. He was the first batsman to be given out by a third umpire. In 1992, during the second day of the Durban Test, Jonty Rhodes from South Africa ran him out. The umpires referred it to the third umpire, and he became the first cricketer to be ruled out after TV replays. 

8. At 19 years of age, Sachin was the youngest Indian to play county cricket in England. 

9. The first brand that he endorsed was 'Boost' and the first ad that he appeared in was for sticking plaster. 

10. Sachin was a bully in school, with his first captain even once stating that the cricketer would always want to beat up people that he was meeting for the first time. 

11. Sachin's cricketing journey started after he fell from a tree on a Sunday evening. It infuriated his brother Ajit, who send him to cricket coaching classes as punishment. 

12. Sachin was a big fan of tennis legend John McEnroe, and even grew his hair and tied a band around it to copy his idol. 

13. Sachin was named after Sachin Dev Burman, and the cricketer is a great fan of Kishore Kumar. 

14. Sachin once put a hose pipe into Sourav Ganguly's room and turned the tap on! Dada entered to a pool of water in his room.
